Good Times

Well, our trip was absolutely wonderful. We walked Bourbon Street (although both the husband and myself preferred Royal over Bourbon - we were there during the Southern Decadence festival, so it was bumpin' all over); ate many, many beignets; bought lots of goodies; visited 2 antebellum plantations - one a part of the National Park System and the other a house in Vicksburg used as a Union hospital during the siege - supposedly the 3rd most haunted house in the United States); visited the "Barber of Natchez" house; went to lots of very moving, old cemeteries; gorged ourselves on tons of excellent food; and enjoyed spending all the time we could savoring one another, and the fact that we didn't have to be at work!

On a side note though, it was unbelievable how much of New Orleans still looks like Katrina just hit yesterday. It was one of the most powerful, and upsetting sites I think I've ever seen. Here's one of the photos we took:

And this is just one building out of hundreds and hundreds that looked so forsaken. It's all so mind-blowing really. I cannot even begin to fathom all the destruction in that city. Seeing the parts we saw just made me even more awe-struck, and I know we only saw a very small slice of it.

Hello there...it's Seacreature. I don't understand the difference between Blogger and Blogger in Beta. I can't comment with the Beta one so I had to make an identity to comment with! Oiy.
Glad you guys got away and enjoyed your trip. Didja check out lotsa blues gigs? That's awesome that you guys love to go to shows...my fiance has stacks and stacks of ticket stubs from the 90s. He saw NIRVANA. Poo head. But he's taken me to more shows than I've ever been and I LOVE it!
Anyway, thanks for your encouragement. Keep up with the blogging...so far so good! Have a great weekend!

The only blues "shows" we actually saw on our trip were one being performed at the New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park and then one of the street entertainers in the French Quarter - Grandpa Elliott. He was amazing. This 65 year old man who'd been performing in the quarter since he was 6 or 7. We listened to him 3 different times during our stay and even bought his cd. Neat man.

I know, I've seen more shows since I've been with my husband, then I'd seen in the last ten years. He loves live music. When I was in high school though I saw a ton of big name bands - actually saw Nirvana too just a few months before Kurt Cobain's death. So glad I caught that show.

Hope you're having a good weekend too :)

Oh...well then you're a poo head, too! Hehehehe!

Wow, I love people like Grandpa Elliot. I've gone to a few jazz gigs with my dad and met some pretty interesting performers, too.
